The price of the Basic Food Basket increased 6.3% in July. This means that a family group made up of four people (a couple with two children) needs an amount of $49,465 just to buy the most essential food to survive the month. Those who do not have this sum would find themselves in a situation of indigence.

These data were provided by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec). The entity also calculated the cost of the Total Basic Basket, an index that, in addition to food, includes clothing and transportation. This also rose 6.8% in July, for which the same family group needed to have an income of $111,297 in order not to fall below the poverty line.
In the first seven months of the year, the Total Basket increased by 46.2% and the Food Basket by 50.1%, a difference that is essentially due to the fact that the rates of public services, and transport, had little increase, so which increases the weight that food has within the indices.
