A recipe for chicken with syrup went viral on Tik Tok. The challenge is a real danger to health. The so-called “Ny Quil Chicken” is not effective in alleviating cough.

Through social networks we find different challenges and challenges that go viral that can be very harmful and experts recommend not to imitate or carry out. A new viral challenge worries medical specialists, it consists of cooking chicken with cough syrup, thus creating a dangerous chemical reaction that can be highly harmful.

This video emerged in the United States due to the increase in cases of coronavirus recorded in recent days and several users assured that the recipe is capable of fighting even Covid-19, something for which there is no scientific evidence.

“My wife got sick yesterday, so I’m going to cook chicken with NyQuil,” says one user as he “baths” two chicken breasts in NyQuil.

The Food and Drug Administration of the United States (FDA for its acronym in English) made the alert about the challenge since “they can present significant risks if they are used incorrectly or abused”. The cough syrup, known as NyQuil, contains acetaminophen, dextromethorphan, and doxylamine. The FDA indicates that the recipe, in addition to being unappetizing, could be harmful to health even if the “prepared” meat is not eaten.
