According to the second survey of prevalence of violence against women conducted by the United Nations, 45% of Argentine women went through some kind of gender violence in the domestic sphere.

The survey was prompted by the Ministry of Women, Gender and Diversity of the Nation (MMGYD) through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), through the Spotlight Initiative, a United Nations program with the support of the European Union.

In this context, the document gave as a result that the type of violence that prevails is the psychological violence (42.3%). second continues economic and/or patrimonial (22.9%), in third place physical (23.3%). Lastly, he 17.7% declares to have gone through situations of sexual violence by their current or ex-partner throughout their lives.

The official sources revealed that “so far the Argentina did not have antecedents important in terms of production of information on prevalenceinsofar as it allows the dimensioning of the problem at the national level”.

They also added that “the results achieved make visible the gender violence as a problem that affects close to half of the women interviewed and that extends throughout the twelve provinces”.

To carry out the study, they interviewed 12,152 women between the ages of 18 and 65residents in 26 towns in Buenos Aires and in the provinces Chaco, Chubut, Entre Ríos, Jujuy, Neuquén, Misiones, Salta, San Luis, Santa Fe, Santiago del Estero and Tucumán, with the aim of being able to design strategic policies for the prevention and approach of gender violence and strengthen the response of the State.

The field work was carried out in two stages: the first between February and March 2021 in the provinces of Salta, Jujuy, Buenos Aires, San Luis, Santa Fe, Chaco, Entre Ríos and Neuquén; and the second, between November and December of the same year, in Chubut, Santiago del Estero, Misiones and Tucumán.

Another fact that emerges from the survey is that violence tends to occur in combination: two thirds of women who experienced situations of violence went through at least two different types.

The results also show that the 64% of women who experienced a situation of domestic violence throughout their lives indicated that the the aggressor was your ex-partnerMeanwhile he 25.5% pointed out that it was his current partner.

The report also emphasizes the environments where situations of violence occur, evidencing that More than 90% of the women interviewed who reported episodes of violence were alone with their partners or ex-partners when it occurred.

In addition, it is evident thate only 21% of women came to file a complaint with an official body. The majority, 77.3%, did not file a complaint and 1.6% went to the institutional device, but did not file a complaint.

Another axis that the survey contributed is related to the effects of violence on health and well-being of women, where they stand out negative consequences on mental health.

Finally, regarding the geographic location about the phenomenon, although gender violence is widespread throughout the 12 provinces that make up the sample, at the extremes are jump with 62% and Jujuy with 67.5% as the provinces that present the greatest problem; while Santa Fe with 39.2%as the one with the lowest prevalence.
