Risk factors that affect the heart
There are some pathologies and risk factors that can affect heart health. Among the first, da Silveira lists: hypertension, diabetes, obesity and cholesterol.
On the other hand, the excessive intake of salt, sugar and white flour causes inflammation of the endothelium (lining of the arteries through which blood circulates) and, over the years, contributes to the formation of cholesterol plaques that lead to to acute myocardial infarction.
Other risk factors that harm the heart are smoking, sedentary lifestyle, family history of heart disease, chronic emotional stress, feelings of anger, anxiety and depression, daily alcohol consumption and drug use.
Tips to prevent coronary heart disease
Although some risk factors, such as family history, cannot be modified, the WHO warns that most cardiovascular diseases can be prevented by addressing behavioral habits.
Among the most important, specialists point out:
1. Eat a healthy and balanced diet
2. Exercise regularly
3. No smoking
4. Avoid alcohol
5. Get regular medical check-ups
6. Manage stress
7. Consult a health professional and take the prescribed medication
