President Alberto Fernández made an urgent and fleeting trip to Brasilia on Tuesday to meet with his counterpart Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and with the government economic team he leads. After the meeting, the Brazilian president has promised to take action: “I am going to talk to the IMF so that they remove the knife from Argentina’s neck”
Fernandez arrived this Tuesday at 3:25 p.m. in Brasilia to meet with Lula da Silva, reported official sources. The presidents discussed bilateral trade, trade agreements, and the possibility of exchanges without the use of US dollars. Over there Lula made explicit his political support for Argentinaalthough he did not give technical details about the economic and financial cooperation that his government will offer to the Frente de Todos administration.
“We are in solidarity with the fight of the government of Alberto Fernández regarding the situation of Argentina and the debt. I promised to make all the sacrifice to help the country in this difficult moment, ”Lula assured at the beginning of her statement at the Alvorada Palace.
But Lula did not stop at the BRICS and their eventual support for the Casa Rosada. The Brazilian leader announced that he gave instructions to his Fernando Haddad, his Economy Minister, to support Argentina in its negotiation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“I have the intention of helping to remove the knife that the IMF has in Argentina’s neck. We know how Argentina got into debt and who lent it the money, so they can’t be pressured like that. Argentina is a country that only wants to grow and create employment”, assured Lula in front of Alberto Fernández.
