April 1 is National Bone Marrow Donation Day. In adherence, blood collections and registrations in the National Registry of Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell Donors (CPH), or bone marrow, will be carried out at different points in the province.
The initiative is promoted by the Ministry of Health, through the Coordinating Body for Ablation and Implantation of Córdoba (Ecodaic) and with the collaboration of different collection centers.
On Friday, April 1, the main collection will take place at the “Dr. Ramón Carrillo” (Manuel Cardeñosa 2900, city of Córdoba). This day, people interested in registering as donors can come from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
In addition, on Monday, April 11, a collection will be held at the Oliva Zonal Hospital, (Hipólito Yrigoyen 500, in the town of Oliva), from 8 to 12:30; and on Tuesday, April 12, at the Villa Giardino municipal health center (Av. San Martín 1257), from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
How is the donation procedure
To register as a donor, the person signs an informed consent and agrees to donate a unit of blood (450 ml.), from which a small sample is taken for genetic typing that will be available in the National Registry of Donors. In this way, the registration is confirmed and if it is compatible with a recipient, Incucai contacts the donor to make the bone marrow donation effective.
