This Thursday the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC) reported that the poverty rate reached 39.2% of the economically active population at the end of the second half of last year, above the 37.3% for the same period in 2021. Meanwhile, it represents an increase compared to the 36.5% that was detected in the first semester of 2022. The indigence had been of the 8.8% in that period.

The index of Indigenceunderstood as the portion of the poor whose income is not enough to buy the minimum amount of food to survive, was located in 8.1% between July and September of last year, compared to 8.8% in the same period of 2021. In total there are 11.5 million people in poverty, of which 2.4 million are destitute, according to official statistics .

However, the number of poor is greater, since the sample of the INDEC only reveals a universe of 30 million people, when the number of inhabitants of Argentina exceeds 45 millions.
