In line with local trends –in Córdoba there was a 3.8% drop in retail sales-, SME sales fell 0.1% in April compared to the same month last year. According to data from the CAME (Argentine Confederation of Medium Enterprises), they continue with a consecutive negative streak for four months and accumulate a rextraction of 0.7% in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period in 2022. In the monthly relationship, businesses sold 0.7% more than in March.

Although the decline is very smooth, 5 of the 7 items measured grew in the annual comparison and only 2 fell. He weighed in that discreet result the bouquet of food and beverages, which fell 1.6% annually, and is the one that weighs the most in the indicator. Instead, sectors like Pharmacies and Footwear, rose 4.2% and 7% respectively.

“Equally, the trade situation is still delicate. Costs rise daily and 55% of the companies consulted stated that they had difficulties in stocking up on merchandise in April. The most complicated businesses were perfumeries, hardware stores, construction materials, electrical and clothing,” supported the economic analysis of CAME.

Sectorial analysis

Sales rose annually in 5 of the 7 items measured, with the largest increase in footwear (+7%) and the largest drop in clothing and textiles (-6.1%).
