The National Institute of Statistics and Censuses of the Argentine Republic (INDEC) will announce this Thursday the official inflation for the month of June.According to analysts, retail prices, during that month, slowed down compared to May and they estimate that the figure will be around 7%. However, in the Government they expect a lower number.

The economic team led by the minister and now presidential candidate, Sergio Massa, expects a noticeable drop, higher than the drop of half a percentage point projected by some consultants. From the Government they believe that the value could be below 6.5% taking into account the strong setbacks observed in regional measurements of the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Until now, the indicators of the Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages component, the most important chapter within the CPI, have shown a slowdown in prices in recent weeks.

The data that will be known around 4:00 p.m. will be key in Massa’s campaign and political aspirations since this will be the last inflation record before PASO, to be held on August 13, the statistics agency plans to report the inflation number for July, two days after the elections.
