After the preliminary statement by Claudio Caniggia, in which the former soccer player denied the facts and pleaded not guilty, the Justice finally ruled that the defendant was without merit. The resolution established that there is no evidence to accuse Caniggia, but neither to dismiss the complaint.

Meanwhile, Judge Pablo Ormaechea asked to summon Daniel Angelici, Jorge Luis Burruchaga and Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia as witnesses. According to the former soccer player, these could describe the state in which he was on the birthday of the former president of Boca, prior to the alleged incident. In addition, he ordered a series of expert studies on the accused.

The three children of the couple will also be summoned in order to know details of family life and to determine if any of them had knowledge of the alleged abuse.

Caniggia is accused of sexually abusing his ex-wife Mariana Nannis. The fact had been denounced by Nannis herself in February 2020. In her statement, she said that she had been abused by her ex-husband in 2018 in an apartment at the Faena hotel in Puerto Madero.
