Valentina Apfelbaum, one of the great promises of Kinky Boots, gave an exclusive interview for Espacio Canal C and told us how she landed in the play directed by Flavio Mendoza.
“I went to see the play in July in Buenos Aires with my mother on a family trip. I wanted to go see Kinky Boots and I left wanting to be there, it was crazy, ”she began by telling Valentina about how she found out about the play. In relation to all the stages that she had to go through before being selected, she expressed: “after two months I see that there are auditions in Villa Carlos Paz so that I can be in Kinky in Luxor, there I say it is my opportunity. I was totally relaxed and calm, if it suited me but also. The audition was beautiful, directed by Ricky Pashkus who is a genius. Matías Ibarra was also taking the voice, they took our voice, singing, songs. Barbi was taking choreography, and the performance was taken by Ricky Pashkus.”
“It was a two-day edition and more than 500 people showed up for that casting. We were staying there little by little, going through several stages and well later waiting for the email (to confirm if they had been selected). Then I received the email and we started rehearsals”, says the artist.
Now, Valentina occupies a very important place in the show, where not only dancing but also singing is encouraged, a talent that until now had not exploded so much. “I think that now I am like in this to challenge myself, Kinky made me challenge myself in what is singing and acting because I always studied dance, different styles of dance, I worked in dance but not of this. It was a very good challenge and now I bet to grow in this, “said the artist.
