At noon this Thursday, April 27, municipal and provincial authorities will attend a ceremony in the Plaza San Martín in the city of Córdoba to honor the 75th anniversary of the creation of the State of Israel.
Also for this day, the colors of the Israeli flag will illuminate three iconic places in the capital: the Kempes stadium, the Bicentennial Lighthouse and the Civic Center.
This is a vitally important date for Israelis as it is a historic moment that was fraught with strong political and social upheavals. The history of Israel as a State begins with its proclamation of independence in 1948. This historic event was achieved after more than sixty years of diplomatic efforts by Zionists to establish a sovereign nation in what they considered to be their homeland, the ancient Land of Israel, also known as Palestine. Less than 24 hours after the proclamation of independence, the regular armies of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq invaded, forcing Israel to defend its newly regained sovereignty.
The honorary consul of Israel in Córdoba, Andrés Orchansky, assured in local media that “Celebrating Israel’s anniversary, for us also means reliving a miracle that we renew every day.”
